Health services and related factors associated with pain management among older adults in need of care (with and without cognitive impairment) will be analyzed. Moreover, cluster of symptoms of pain will be analyzed in our target group. The ACHE study is a cross-sectional study using primary data. Study participants will be randomly selected via home care services and nursing counselling center. Pain affected older adults in need of care will be questioned about their personal pain situation as well as about the medical and nursing pain management received. Furthermore, information about family caregiver will be asked for as long as they are involved in organizational processes and nursing care, as well. The ACHE study will give us the opportunity to learn more about therapeutic and nursing interventions for older adults in need of care and could provide the base for a following intervention study aiming a “model project for pain management for older adults receiving home care”.
