This research project investigates reasons for women being inadequately represented in the upper management of university medical entities. German university hospitals will take part in quantitative representative surveys, deepening qualitative interviews, expert discussions as well as organizational analysis that focus on equal opportunity problems in career develop-ment. These studies aim to understand career development determinates in relation to the mutually influential levels of person, organization and system. The outcome of this investiga-tion may be used to derive recommendations or guidelines for the improved equality of oppor-tunities for male and female physicians.
