Aim
Findings from this evaluation will be used for an optimization of the treatment process for abdominal pain patients as well as to ensure smooth implementation. A standardized and structured treatment process, which is digitally supported through an App (i.e. APU-App) will assist physicians to make evidence-based treatment decisions from first medical examination until emergency department discharge. The evaluation will take place alongside the multi-centred (N=10), cluster-randomized stepped wedge APU trial. First, patients in the APU trial will be surveyed (n=2000) regarding their patient satisfaction, quality of life. As well, length of stay in the emergency department will be assessed. Second, participatory patient observations of the APU process will be conducted, as well as semi-structured interviews with experts working with the novel APU-App will be performed to gather an understanding of potential success factors and barriers of the APU process.
