GIG - Examining the health situation of homeless people in Berlin

Homelessness is considered the most extreme form of social deprivation. Homeless people are not only excluded from the housing market, but also experience exclusion in other existential areas of life, such as work, education, medical care. Life on the street or in collective accommodation, shelters, hostels represents a major health burden. Medical care is usually provided outside the structures of the regular health care system. The health center for homeless people of the Jenny De la Torre Foundation in Berlin Mitte is a donation-financed institution providing medical care and further services to homeless people. The primary objective of the present research project is to describe and analyze the social and health situation of homeless people in Berlin from 2006 to 2020. For the analysis, an anonymous full survey of the medical history records available in the health center for homeless people of the Jenny De la Torre Foundation will be carried out.
