MIA-PROM - Multimodal interactive assistance for the digital collection of Patient-Reported Outcome Measures

Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) will play a central role in a patient-centered transformation of healthcare in the coming years. Technical and organizational challenges concern interoperability aspects as well as insufficient integration into clinical processes, in particular the immediate usability of the results for treatment and quality purposes. Content-related hurdles lie in the cognitive burden on the patients, but also in insufficient information about the purpose of the survey and, as a result, in insufficient data quality of the PROMs collected.

In MIA-PROM, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), an assistance system is being developed, implemented and evaluated using AI methods. The assistance system is intended to reduce these hurdles on the clinical and patient side and thus contribute to optimizing the collection of PROMs. The aim of the assistant is to make the PROMs collection process barrier-free by offering multimodal and user-friendly operating options, adapting to the user and providing information about the purpose of the survey. On the clinic side, the assistance system can be securely connected to the existing infrastructure. A separate evaluation functionality provides options for clinical use of the data and facilitates socio-medical assessments.
